Dash and Lily's Book of Dares Review

Author: David Levithian and Rachel Cohn
Pages: 272
Genre: Young-Adult Fiction

“I’ve left some clues for you. If you want them, turn the page. If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”  So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the New York Times bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?"

I could not put this book down - I read it in a day! It's on  my favorite books of the year so far. One of my favorite aspects of the book was the New York City setting at Christmas time. Who doesn't love New York? (Not including Boston Red Sox fans, anyways.)
Something else I liked about this book was it alternated between the perspectives of Dash and Lily. They were both likeable, quirky, and funny in their own ways. Dash had family problems and was sometimes grouchy. Lily was shrill, hence the nickname "Shrilly", and didn't fit in at school. However, Levithian and Cohn still manage to make well-rounded and entertaining characters. They were both huge booknerds, and being one myself, I immediately felt a connection to them. *Bonus: This book is 100% Mary-Sue free.*
Dash and Lily have an adorable relationship. I don't usually like books about love or romance, because in my opinion they're usually cheesy. However, this book wasn't sappy at all. Their relationship was genuine and unique.
My absolute favorite part of this book is the humor. It was hilarious! I actually laughed out loud a few times and it definitely kept me reading.
This book stole my heart and left me smiling. It's a fun, quick read. Everyone should give this book a try!

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
